How to Determine the Right Size For Your New Belt
A handmade leather belt is strong and durable and with proper fit and care can last much longer than mass produced belts. Those usually entail 2 thin pieces of leather sewn together with a cardboard center.
Getting the right size is incredibly important. NO, your pants size is not your belt size. Here are my suggestions for getting a correct belt measurement.
If you currently have a belt that fits, finding your proper size is easy! Lay the existing belt out on table and place end of measuring tape at the point where the leather, nylon, or other collar material folds at the buckle end (first image below). Then measure the belt to the point where you currently wear it (second image below). This is the measurement I use to make the belt and will be where the middle hole is punched on your new belt with 2 more holes on each size for adjustment.
If you do not have a current belt to take measurements from, run sewing tape measure through your belt loops {as shown below) and put your pants where you would normally wear them. Read the measurement from the point you believe the belt would be most comfortable. Please find someone to help you with this to ensure a proper fit.
